It's your treasurer with an important reminder. 

Recently, I've been getting double payments and/or questions about whether or not memberships are set up for auto-pay. (This also happened this past winter and I sent out a similar email.) 

I'd like to invite everyone who receives a renewal email to give it a careful read. Since winter, I added additional direction to help members determine for themselves whether or not their dues are set up for automatic payment. 

Here's the email with the important bit in bold

Hi!

Just a reminder that your account access will expire in five (5) days.

If you have a recurring payment set up at PayPal, you don't need to do anything. It will automatically renew your account, and this e-mail is a reminder of that subscription.

If you aren't sure if you have an automatic dues payment set up, login to your PayPal account and go to Profile/Profile and Settings/My Money/ Preapproved Payments. All your automatic payments will be listed.

If you haven't set up auto-pay and wish to renew your membership, please login to the Broad Universe website under Member Gateway at https://broaduniverse.org/

If you have any trouble renewing or don't have a PayPal account, please contact us at money@broaduniverse.org.

FYI, PayPal uses the terms preapproved payments or recurring payments. And if you cancel your auto-pay, I don't always receive notification. 

Additionally, Broad Universe (membership database, digital storage or officers) doesn't ever have access to your PayPal passwords, credit cards numbers, or any bank account numbers or other personal financial data associated with your PayPal account. 

So if you have any questions, before you pay, log into PayPal, check your Preapproved Payments first.

While it is nice to have members send BU money, if you make a double dues payment and you want a refund, that costs you and BU money. Basically there's a few when BU receives the money from PayPal and when we send it back to you, you get charged a few. (While it is nominal, it does add up.)
