2017 WSFA Small Press Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Washington (DC) Science Fiction Association (WSFA) is pleased to announce that the submission period for the 2017WSFA Small Press Award is now open and will close on April 8, 2018.

The WSFA Small Press Award honors the efforts of small press publishers in providing a critical venue for short fiction in the area of speculative fiction. The award showcases the best original short fiction published by small presses in the previous year (2017). An unusual feature of the selection process is that all voting is done with the identity of the author (and publisher) hidden so that the final choice is based solely on the quality of the story.

The winner is chosen by the members of the Washington Science Fiction Association and presented at their annual convention, Capclave, held in the Fall.
Submissions should be sent to admin@wsfasmallpressaward.org

See our webpage http://wsfasmallpressaward.org/The_Rules.php for details.

Call for Submissions: Normal Deviation Anthology

Anthologist: Wonderbox Publishing (http://wonderboxpublishing.com)
Open for Submissions: June 1, 2017 - August 31, 2017
Expected Publication: May 2018
Story Length: up to 6,000 words
Payment: currently funding on Kickstarter (http://kck.st/2sBeWbG) for minimum £0.01/word + contributor copy

Normal Deviation is seeking “Third Option” short stories based on the attached image, up to 6000 words (deadline: 31 Aug 2017). “Third Option” is our shorthand for digging a little deeper into that writerly creativity bucket: we’d like everyone to cast aside (at least) the first two ideas that come to you, and instead focus on the third (or fourth or fifth…) idea to develop. The goal here is to avoid the obvious, to generate fresh ideas, to get at deviation.

We want stories in any genre, from any perspective, any time period and setting. As long as the story is good, and based somehow on this image, we want to read it!

We’ve launched a Kickstarter to fund the anthology, as we think all authors deserve payment (starting at least at a penny per word). Support us, support authors, and please submit and become one of our authors!

Full details and author guidelines are on our website at http://normaldeviation.wonderboxpublishing.com. Subscribe to updates from our weekly blog, get a feel for what we’re like and what we like, and join us in this bizarre story adventure!
