Networking Opportunities
Networking is a necessity in today's highly-competitive publishing game. Broad Universe has members in all areas of the publishing field including writers, editors, agents, and publishers. By getting to know other Broads, you can gain valuable insight, information, and contacts that help you market your work more effectively.
Some ways to hook up with other Broads:
- Join the Broad Universe Yahoo Group. Approximately half of the Broad Universe membership is in the group, which is an online email group with Yahoo. Information about upcoming events is distributed through the List, including calls for participation. If you're organizing an event, you can use the List to call for participants. You can even find out about Broad Universe volunteer opportunities.
- Read the newspage. Broad Universe events are periodically announced here, and can be a great way to meet other Broads in your area. News about individual authors such as upcoming readings, signings, and publishings can be found here as well. Click on a link, read a story, contact a member you might want to work with. And don't forget to send in your own headlines to make the newspage more interesting!
- Visit the events page for a listing of conventions at which BU members will be hosting an event.
- Search the member pages to find Broads located in your geographical region. Broad Universe offers a Broads by Region list on the same page, through which you can obtain email addresses for contact. Both these lists are available in pdf format. They exist in the private members area of the website and will require you to enter the password which is distributed monthly via the BU announce only list. If a member that you are trying to contact does not have an email address listed, she may have chosen not to be contacted. Please be respectful of your fellow members' privacy. Some members can be contacted through agents. Do your research.
- Contact the motherboard (info(at)broaduniverse.org) if you have a great idea for BU, but need member and/or motherboard support. Find out just how the motherboard operates.
